Sharper Image Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone
78
Remember the old-fashioned clock radios with the large digital numbers in front, that looked like the timers of bombs in the movies? That aesthetic, which seems kind of dated, was the standard of the eighties for clock radios.
Of course, the age of cellular phones pretty much ended the alarm clock radio business. After all, most people use their cellular phones as alarm clocks, and they have the time. As for the radio, most people would prefer the iPod.
I suppose this is why The Sharper Image decided to market its new Clock Radio as an iPod and iPhone dock. Sure, iPod docks are really common these days, and usually anyone who wants to market an iPod dock or stereo speaker usually just makes a box and puts a dock on it. I’m not certain why Sharper Image went with this model for this version of their iPod dock, except to create a deliberately retro feel. Yes, the Shaper Image has created other iPod docks, like the Rotating Speaker System.
The Clock Radio dock has a dual alarm system and the user is able to set the alarm to wake up to their favorite song on their particular playlist. The alarm has a convenient auto off timer and nap feature that can be set for fifteen, thirty, forty-five, and sixty minute intervals.
By the way, if you want to play your favorite tune on this guy, you should probably use the controls that are on the iPod. It doesn’t look like there are any switches on the top of the dock that control that.
I do like the charging feature. Considering that most people these days tend to live with iPod earbuds in their ears, it is nice to have an iPod Clock Radio so you can just put your iPod on the charger and pretty much forget about it. Tomorrow morning, you can get up, pick it up, and start your day with a fully charged iPod.
As for the sound, it has a pair of two inch speakers that have 6 watts each, and they have pretty good sound. The power comes can come from an ordinary AC outlet, but it can also stem from AAA batteries in case of emergencies.
The batteries are, of course, not included, but the batteries for the remote are. Yes, it comes with a remote control that can work the volume, skip and rewind tracks, among other things. It is a good thing to have if you work from home with your computer on one side of the room and your iPod dock in the other end. However, if you want to change playlists, the remote is unable to do that function.
You should be able to purchase the Sharper Image Clock Radio iPod and iPhone dock at the Sharper Image site for about $99.99 off the Sharper Image Website.

In general, no one likes to be woken up from sleep, especially a great dream. On the other hand, no one wants to miss an important event. (Made me think of the Seinfeld episode where Seinfeld misses something important because of the "Am/Pm" function. Anyway, if you are like me, you don't like waking up and I must say that waking up to your favorite song or anything else is way better than the "beep, beep, beep" that makes my cringe!
